I know many of you have already seen this Marvel Superstars video from UDE's Ben Seck, but for those who haven't, I think it's worth reposting:
Top 6 things I like about the content of this video:
6. The fact that the video seems to have been made to address recent concerns surrounding the game. It doesn't answer them directly, but Ben does let it be known that this is definitely still a work in progress, and that we've only seen a portion of whats to come. It's nice to see Ben reach out to us in a relatively short turn around.
5. Online demo decks are coming in November/December. That's very cool. I assume that by then most of the game's mechanics/rules will be "set in stone". So this means as early as November, we'll be able to judge this game for ourselves. Nice!
4. Hey - are those Vs. System playmats he's got around his desk? Why, yes! Yes they are. I can only hope that we'll get some cool Superstars playmats out of this as well. Heck, even if you end up not liking the game, how can you resist a playmat that looks like this:
3. The new web site sounds cool. It'll be nice to have an official hub with a working forum for this game. I know with Vs. System, their web efforts were stifled by contracts they had in place (which I think also effected Yu-Gi-Oh, which is why the metagame.com site was created). Looks like this is no longer going to be a problem, which should help in this game's promotion tremendously.
2. The Organized Play sounds promising. I know we'll have to wait and see how it really shakes out, but if it goes down the way Ben hopes, then there should be a VERY active community. Weekly Hobby League prizes? Let the ebay bidding wars begin!
1. I don't think Ben is wearing pants in this video. Calls to UDE on this subject were not returned by press time.
The only thing that kinda bummed me out is that this game is not getting a worldwide release. That said, the reasons behind that decision seem sound. With Vs. System, UDE went too big, too fast. And the UK (and other countries) paid an especially high price for that in the final years of the game. Hopefully this time out, the game will be strong enough on it's own to support itself when it jumps across the pond. I know this is a weak consolation to non-US gamers who are anxious to try this game out, but it's all I got right now.
So there we have it. The latest update. I hope we get more demo reports/info from Seattle's SOLD-OUT (!!) PAX this weekend. I'm guessing the demos themselves won't be much different, but the people giving the demos may have a more solid grasp on the game.

One final note for the week: I saw this video about a second after it was released. How? Facebook. I then notified all TheHeroBlog.com Facebook fans about the post. If you'd like to become a Facebook fan of this blog, visit the blog's Facebook page and click "become a fan".
I update that page a couple of times a day, often times with content I don't address here. But don't worry - I don't flood you with every single superhero-related link I see. I respect the fact that, while you love breaking superhero information, you also need room in your newsfeed for hangover updates from co-workers, baby pictures from your family, and all the quiz results from your many friends.
UDE is dedicated.....Yeah - like, they have a 10 year plan and everything!

I see some massive strategy potential in this game, starting with the 15 Leaders:

Building decks with specific leader characters to define the archetype? Bliss.

I am reserving my thoughts on this to see how they address the fact they are basing their game off of a very very limited pool of characters.
