All across America (and the world?) this weekend, people will be celebrating Gay Pride. Parades, parties, concerts, etc. So I thought I'd jump on the bandwagon and throw a shout-out to one of the more interesting comic book websites out there right now.
Prism Comics is a site dedicated to comics, but from a Gay/Lesbian point of view. From their "about" page:
Prism Comics is a nonprofit organization that supports lesbian, gay,
bisexual and transgendered (LGBT) comics, creators, and readers.
...We hope to acquaint comics readers with a wide range of creators who present good stories that readers can really relate to and that reflect their own experiences. We hope that more readers will sample the work of LGBT creators when they're spending their money on comics and, as a result, demonstrate to more publishers that these books are truly worthwhile. We also hope to knit together a large LGBT comics community so that creators can feel more comfortable coming out of the comics closet and standing up as proud participants in an industry we all care about.
That's pretty sweet in my book. Taking two things you're passionate about and putting them together. (Hey - that's how they came up with the peanut butter cup...).
So check the site out and see for yourself how hard these guys and gals have been working to create cool, independent comics.
Have a great weekend everyone. Peace.
