Blinded by the light…or is that the shine from his forehead? Presenting…
BALDSDAY!
This is it. This is what everyone has been waiting for. Children even got out of school last week in anticipation of this match. (And you thought it was summer break…pfft!)
So here we are…left with the two final decks that managed to get this far while WE were playing them. These results do not suggest that any of these decks is better than another, only that someone out there created a deck that not even we could screw up.
Dwarven Spider Knights (created and played by the Dwarf) vs.
Avenging Knights (created by Adam Myers and played by the Baldman)
Baldman wins toss, and chooses EVENS!
Turn 1

Baldman Draw: Superman, Elektra, Mega Blast and Crackshot
Mulligan into: Dagger, EOME, Mega Blast, Mega Blast, EOME, EOME

Baldman Recruit: nothing
50-50
Turn 2

Place: hab
Baldman Draw: EOME, Mega Blast
Place: Midnight Suns
Dwarf Recruit: Barbara Gordon with Jet Pack
Baldman Recruit: Nothing (holy cow…3 turns and nothing to play, and nothing in hand either, though I have all 4 EoMEs…)
Barbara Gordon into Baldman for 6.
44-50
Turn 4
Dwarf Draw: cassie cain, white tiger
Place: black cat
Baldman Draw: Dagger, WWBN
Place: EoME
Dwarf Recruit: Cassandra Cain
Baldman Recruit: Thor, using EoME discarding Dagger, and EOME discarding WWBN to get Captain America and Thor. Reveal Captain America for Thor.
Thor into Cassandra Cain. Baldman plays Mega Blast. Cassandra stuns, plus 5 breakthrough and 2 from a revealed Blade for a total of 11 and Baldman takes 4 for thors stun.
Dwarf swings with Barbara Gordon for 6.

Turn 5
Dwarf Draw: hook-up, batman (yay!!)
Place: Hook Up
Baldman Draw: Blade, Hawkeye
Place: Finishing Move
Dwarf Recruit: White Tiger
Baldman Recruit: Hawkeye behind Thor (I am hoping to make use of that finishing move to limit how bad this round could be for me. If he keeps all 3, I am screwed!)
Barbara Gordon into Hawkeye and Baldman takes 5 (4 stun and 1 breakthrough) and Dwarf takes 3 and draws a card.
White Tiger into Thor. Baldman taps Thor to play Finishing move to KO Barbara Gordon. Thor stuns with 2 breakthrough.
Cassandra Cain to the face for 8.
15-36
Turn 6
Dwarf Draw: Barbara Gordon, ego gem
Place: black cat
Baldman Draw: Black Panther, Savage Beatdown
Place: EoME
Dwarf Recruit: Batman
Baldman Recruit: Captain America with Thor behind him.
Thor into White Tiger with Mega Blast taking 2 damage plus a revealed Thor for 4 more.
Captain America into Cassandra Cain. Cassandra taps for Dwarf to draw a card. Baldman plays Savage Beatdown. Dwarf discards 4 cards to give +4/+4. Baldman uses EoME discarding Blade to get Captain America to power up. Dwarf discards 1 to give Cassandra +1/+1. Baldman plays Savage Beatdown. Dwarf takes 15, and Baldman takes 6, with ego gem going back to dwarf’s hand.\
(Dwarf Note: I didn’t want to dump 5 cards on Batgirl, but I kinda had to to get the cap stun. And with that stun secured…)
Batman swings into Thor for 4 plus 5 breakthrough, taking Baldman, conveniently, to zero.
0-15
Dwarven Spider Knights wins!
The rundown:
This was a less than ideal final match. Both players took a mulligan and there were still no characters on the board until round 3. I can’t remember the last time I missed 1-3 drops in the same match.
So that brings us to the Victors:
The Dwarf wins the EA Challenge!
And the person who guessed the most matches right?
Well that’s complicated. We technically have a tie between Robert (2+2+2+3+4=13) and Grumqa (2+2+2+3+4=13). Both had exactly the same predictions. But, Suneater and Chester predicted the winners of the first 4 matches perfectly. (Sadly I do not have round 5-7 predictions from either of them though...)
So here is the breakdown…
The Dwarf is getting a custom made playmat for winning the tournament. He told me that he wants an Alpha Flight playmat.
I need to have a tie breaker between Robert and Grumqa for the Foom playmat. Whoever does not get the mat will get an assortment of cards from my collection, as well as both Suneater and Chester will get a couple of cards for their predictions as well.
So I need Robert, Grumqa, Suneater and Chester to contact me via e-mail. Robert and Grumqu will agree on a tie-breaker with me, and Suneater, Chester and whoever loses the tie breaker need to get a list of the cards I have available to send out for prizes. I have most MAA, DCX, MUN and MEQ cards along with a selection of EA cards and some of the more recent rare cards from the MEV and MUN sets to choose from.
Congratulations to everyone, participants and predictors alike, who made this event fun for all of us to watch and read about!
The next couple weeks will be filled with Fan Created Goodness on Thurs… I mean Baldsdays! Don’t miss out!
Do you have feedback from something you did that was particularly fun, or have an idea for a future Baldsday? Do you have some fan created cards lying around that are just dope? Do you have feedback you would like to share? Then contact me at seanthebaldman@hotmail.com or leave a comment. Your feedback is always welcome!
I like to thank everyone involved for a great tourney and a good reading for weeks. That was an awesome format to build and play!

Good times!
Why didn't you (Sean) search out Black Panther on turn three? I would have played the odds and searched for the 3 drop. Chances are you would have drawn into a character for EomE on the next turn. Plus you would have had the character to swing into Cassie instead of swinging with Captain. Forcing the counter attack to go thru a +2/+2 Thor or Captain.
I think my turn five play would have been different as well. it was possible to get Elecktra in and go for glory on turn 6.
I demand a rematch!
Dunno, it's a lot eaiser to say what I would have done when I wasn't playing the game. I do feel that personal play style has effected the outcome though. I would have brought a gun, would have made sure that I went home with the custom mat. Sean has lost his gangsta ways......
Ah well, that shucks! Nice job, NorCal knows it's EA's!
Great event though! I sure do miss this game......

Having played the deck a few times, I must say that Elektra is a TOUGH kid to get into play due to her dual loyalty. If you don't naturally pull one of your three Midnight Suns or Dagger AND hit Blade on 2...you've got your work cut out for you. And having no back-up 5 drop doesn't do ya any favors.
That "WOW" must be getting to your brain! ;)

All you need is one midnight sones in play to bring her into play! Maybe drop dagger and get it started.....All I'm saying is it's possible, kinda like when your face gets blown off and they replace it with a dead persons face. That type of possible!
Maybe I have lost my VS brain.
Go WOW!

:)
If only it were that easy...You need Midnight Sons AND a Marvel Knights character on the board (in order to play Midnight Sons). So to drop her on 5, you have to:
Hit Blade on 2 (along with MS or a Dagger).
or
Hit multiple Daggers.
or
Underdrop.
Definitely in the realm of possibilities, but far from a given.
And Elektra is good, but she might not be worth the price of that kind of underdrop...especially in a primarily beat-face deck.

He's obviously sicker than he thought.

Something that was left out of the notes was I pitched Dagger on 1 to get a midnight suns. I figured that with 3 EoME that I would draw into some kind of character card and be able to search. Bad luck all around.
